During a scheduled dry-dock period in Newport, VA, JK Rentals installed two clearspan structures aboard a docked Royal Caribbean vessel. The enclosures created protected renovation zones for pool-deck upgrades, allowing crews to work steadily despite coastal weather exposure.
Project Overview
JK Rentals delivered two engineered clearspan enclosures sized at 30m x 20m and 30m x 25m, configured to function as weather-protected renovation zones on the vessel’s open deck. Scope included dry-dock delivery planning, shipboard staging coordination, and enclosure placement that preserved safe circulation for crews and materials.
The structures were sequenced to minimize disruption to surrounding trades, creating stable work zones that supported surface preparation, tooling, and material staging within a compressed dry-dock schedule.
Site Conditions & Logistics
This build took place in a dry-dock environment with restricted access, active renovation work, and strict coordination requirements across multiple trades. The top deck could only be reached by crane, with limited lift availability and tight scheduling windows shared with other contractors.
Because no part of the structure could contact the deck, traditional staking was not an option. Installation required custom rigging, precise lift coordination, and controlled placement within extremely tight clearances—less than six inches in some areas.
